I am a Marriage and Family Therapist Associate who enjoys working with children ages 10 and older, individuals, couples, and families. My approach in the therapeutic relationship is to be a companion with you on your journey of discovery and understanding. I believe that an individual possesses solutions within, and I assist in unearthing them.
I collaborate with clients in the creation goals and treatment strategies that will lead to both client success and positive self-regard. The client’s strengths are incorporated into the treatment strategy, for self-empowerment, to harness the client’s own unique power.
I work with clients experiencing symptoms of anxiety, depression, grief, childhood behavioral issues, relational distress, trauma, and race based traumatic stress. I also have experience treating children diagnosed with ADHD.
As a Certified Positive Discipline Parent Educator, I enjoy working with parents and families with children. When working with children, teens, and families, my therapeutic techniques for engagement also include Structural and Contextual Therapies. Structural Therapy assesses the structure of the family system, including interactions of the members, with the primary goal of positive change. Contextual Therapy takes your lived experience, psychology, relationships, values, and ethics, transmitted across generations, into consideration to assess what drives your behavior. The goal is to create, through awareness, positive cognitive and behavioral changes.
When working with Couples, I utilize Emotionally-Focused Therapy (EFT) and Gottman Couples Therapy. EFT focuses on identifying negative interactional patterns, increasing positive emotional engagement, and fostering a secure bond. Gottman Couples Therapy empowers the couple and helps them to problem-solve, with a goal of creating shared meaning. I am also trained in the Kniffley Racial Trauma Treatment Model.
I am a graduate of Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary with over twenty years of Social Services experience and have an undergraduate degree in Human Development. Originally from New Jersey, my background includes work within the Office on Behavioral Health & Substance Abuse, Office for Accessible Transportation, Social Services, and Essex County Criminal Division Pre-trial Intervention. After working within a child protection agency as a Social Worker, and witnessing the needs of children and families, I decided to begin work in therapy, understanding that real change begins on the inside. My desire is to accompany those seeking understanding of themselves. As a MFT Associate, I am supervised by Danielle Chase, LMFT, my Clinical Supervisor. I am also seeking certification in Play Therapy and am Supervised by Lacey Ryan, LMFT, RPT-S.
