I am a Licensed Professional Art Therapist and Certified Positive Discipline Parent Educator who is passionate about working with children, adolescents, and families as they grow to their full potential. Mainly using a humanistic and person-centered approach to therapy, I seek to help others recognize their strengths and find their voice in a safe and nonjudgmental environment. I use a variety of expressive therapies depending on client needs including art, play, music, movement, and writing.
Growing up in Appalachia, I have been surrounded by artisans and rich story-telling for the majority of my life. I have continued to carry this spirit of creativity with me throughout my education and into my career. After graduating from Eastern Kentucky University in 2014, I went on to obtain my Masters of Education in Counseling and Personnel Services with a concentration in Art Therapy from the University of Louisville. Knowing how creativity has transformed my own life, I have always been passionate about helping others discover this power for themselves.
Since being in the field, I have gained experience in a variety of settings including inpatient psychiatric facilities, schools, foster care agencies, and medical treatment centers. I have worked with both children and adults with a variety of diagnoses including anxiety, depression, attention deficit disorders, impulse control disorders, trauma-related disorders, and a variety of other conditions. I also have experience working with children with developmental delays, medically complex issues, and those on the autism spectrum. I enjoy working with the LGBTQIA+ community and clients of different religious beliefs, races, and ethnic backgrounds. I strive to create a safe and affirming environment for all.
Through integrating evidence-based expressive techniques, I am able to treat clients with a wide variety of issues including adjustment difficulties, changes in family dynamics, grief, anger management, low self-esteem, and attention difficulties. Nonverbal expressive techniques can be beneficial to those that feel intimidated or anxious when verbally expressing themselves and empowers clients throughout their journey of growth and healing. I have also been trained in Level One Trauma-Informed Expressive Arts Therapy and am able to work with children and families struggling with trauma-related disorders, such as PTSD. I know how important it is to find the right therapist to fit your needs, and I look forward to discovering how I can support your family throughout your journey together.
